Understanding What Learning Format is Best For Me
Written by Joanna Zuno 9/22/2021
Sometimes, unexpectedly, you'll realize that material is challenging to absorb, and you may be wondering, "Why can't I get this?." Well, it's not you. We have to assess the best method of learning for us because it will help us succeed in the long run. Here are three different learning styles listed, and hopefully, you'll assess and reevaluate what learning style matches you best, especially when it comes to reading something informal.
Visual Learning
Visual learning is the standard way to access information in knowledge. We are mostly equipped with reading materials: pamphlets, instruction guides, books. For some, information is grasped easily by words alone. However, visual learning is not about words alone. Complicated topics can be hard to clench, so sometimes, the best way to interpret is to get information with visual aids. Visual aids can also help the brain memorize by associating words with pictures rather than having no pictures.
Auditory Learning
Auditory learning is a solid secondary method of learning. Hearing the wording and instruction from another person giving direction can be a proper guiding method. This, too, works when reading. Certain words and phrases can be better grasped when hearing them from another person. Or maybe we cannot imagine a dialogue from an anecdote, or multiple characters in a room, so we need the auditory version to help us further. As I also stated in my other article, "Methods to Acquire Knowledge," visual and auditory can go hand-in-hand, mainly on online videos that can be streamed, or preferring seeing someone read, narrate or instruct to you.
Kinesthetic Learning
Most would associate kinesthetic learning with the ability to build things to learn. That's one of many interpretations. Kinesthetic learning is bringing ideas and information in a setting where you can interact or act it out. So there are books that give us the idea to build, craft, innovate and inspire using our hands. Kinesthetic practice can also be used in imitating exercises, spiritual meditation, or even act out dialogue or detailed information. I remember once in high school, I asked to recount The Triple Alliance and The Triple Entente partnerships of WWI, so the class acted out alliances and all, which helped me further understand the information! Acting or interacting with information to process it better may work for you in the long run!
We at Vialchemy hope that you consider these learning styles if you are currently feeling overwhelmed and feel like you're at an impasse. Let me make it clear to you: don't ever feel ashamed if you need help to learn something. We're all human, and we're all individually unique and different. Each of us has our own learning pace, and sometimes we need something to aid and assist us. Don't feel down if you need to turn to something to grasp information better. Remember, knowledge is gained when you've utilized every learning tool and strategy! Don't ever feel bad using every tool at your disposal!
